Reiki is a Japanese energy technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also seeks to facilitate a person’s own healing response. It is administered by placing hands lightly on or just above a person and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s such energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being healthy.
As the Reiki practitioner places their hands at different locations along the client’s body, the energy flow is often felt as heat, tingling, or other sensations. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit creating many beneficial effects. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of healing that everyone can use.

Hospital Care and Reiki
Northeast Natural Medicine, LLC is proud to offer Reiki services. Reiki has recently been increasingly integrated in hospital settings as well as home health care settings. As of 2008, over 800 hospitals nationwide (15%) were actively offering this therapy to their patients. * Griffin Hospital, Hartford Healthcare and Yale New Haven Hospital are a few such Connecticut facilities that offer Reiki to their patients as part of a more holistic care approach.
For example, a local research study at Hartford Hospital found that Reiki improved sleep by 86%, reduced pain by 78%, reduced nausea by 80% and reduced anxiety during pregnancy by 94%.**
Similar trends can be seen at institutions across the globe. One notable study from India found that the use of Reiki for one week after major surgical procedures, including abdominal surgeries and mastectomies, consistently improved vital signs, thereby allowing for better recovery and reductions in anxiety. ***
